The healthcare spending on Iran’s 6.4 million elderly (from the 80 million population) is 9 times higher than the healthcare expenses for other age groups, said Mohammad Javad Kabir, head of Iranian Insurance Organization (IHIO), on Saturday. Access to healthcare services is also not equitable in all parts of the country. “Currently, for every 100 people with diabetes, only 27 receive the ‘ideal’ treatment, while the figure is 35 for every 100 people suffering from high blood pressure,” IRNA quoted him as saying. Using tobacco can damage the lining of artery walls and increase BP. Too little potassium and Vitamin D, and too much salt in diet can also lead to high blood pressure, he added.
