Shiraz hosted the official opening ceremony of OIC Youth Capital 2017, on Sunday. The historical city will contribute towards the development and unity of youth from the 57 members of the Organization of Islamic Conference.
At the third meeting of the OIC in 2016 in Istanbul, Shiraz along with Putrajaya in Malaysia and Fez in Morocco were selected as the OIC youth capitals, Mehr News Agency reported.
The status of youth capital will provide an opportunity for the city’s cultural growth and “the country’s soft diplomacy,” said Mohammad Reza Rostami, deputy minister for youth affairs.
“Besides the cultural advantages, it can help unlock the potentials of Iranian youth and introduce the nation’s rich culture to the Islamic world.”
It is also expected boost tourism by promoting the city’s historical, natural and religious attractions.
