The 1st HBOT (hyperbaric oxygen therapy) educational, research and treatment facility and the 1st multi-chamber educational center in Iran was opened on Tuesday at the Golestan Hospital belonging to Iran’s Navy and located in northeast Tehran. Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi and Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayyari were present on the occasion. HBOT is a medical treatment which enhances the body’s natural healing process by inhalation of 100% oxygen in a total body chamber, where atmospheric pressure is increased and controlled. It is used for a wide variety of treatments usually as a part of an overall medical care plan. Iran’s Navy has been offering therapeutic recompression services to divers for more than 50 years, and the new center is equipped with the latest German technology and state-of-the-art devices in the field.  The center’s staff was trained in Germany, IRNA reported.
