The sex ratio at birth currently stands at 100 girls to 105.9 boys in urban areas and 100 girls to 105.8 boys in rural areas in the country.
Last year, the overall figures were 105.6 and 105.5, respectively, according to the National Organization for Civil Registration (NOCR). In the first ten months of the current year that ends in March, more than 1.29 million births and 313,790 deaths were registered, the NOCR website reported.
The rate of natural increase (RNI) which is the crude birth rate minus the crude death rate is around 978,500. Iran’s median age is expected to increase from 28 in 2013 to 40 by 2030.
