Refugees’ Literacy Rate 60%

The rate of literacy among Afghan refugees in Iran has reached 60% over the past 30 years, said Ahmad Mohammadifar, director general of the Bureau for Aliens and Foreign Immigrants’ Affairs (BAFIA), at the Interior Ministry.
“Currently the rate has reached 48.5% for female refugees, mostly Afghans. So far, more than 700,000 Afghans have been provided services by the Literacy Movement Organization,” IRNA quoted him as saying.
Around 24,000 foreign students are studying in Iranian universities of whom 19,000 are Afghans. In the sixth five-year development plan (2016-2021), the total number of foreign students in the universities is expected to increase to 75,000.
