Cancer costs the country $2.5 billion (10,000 billion rials) annually.

“About 83% of the costs are paid by the government and the remaining by the people,” said Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi, on the sidelines of a conference to fight cancer held Sunday at Tehran’s Mahak Charity.

The Health Ministry has plans to establish chemotherapy centers in all cities and radiotherapy centers in all provincial capitals to increase people’s access to cancer treatment services, he said, IRNA reported.

Currently, skin, breast, stomach and colon cancers are the most common in the country, respectively.
