Regional Meet on HIV

The latest estimates from UNAIDS say that 75,000 people are infected with HIV in the country, of whom 40,000-50,000 people are not aware of their disease, said Fardad Doroudi, UNAIDS executive director in Iran. He was speaking on the sidelines of the regional meeting on the Fourth Strategic Plan on HIV Control and Prevention (2015-2019) underway at Jundishapur University of Medical Sciences, Ahvaz City, Khuzestan Province (January 21-23). “The best methods to identify the infected people, is among the topics to be discussed at the meeting,” salamatnews.com quoted him as saying. The fourth plan has five major goals including reducing HIV prevalence rate to less than 0.15% among the general public; less that 13% among substance-abusers, and less than 5% among people at risk through sexual
