Around 3.2 million children aged 3-6 were screened for lazy eye (amblyopia) syndrome, and 60,000 children had been diagnosed with the problem. Amblyopia screening program began in October 2016 across the country soon after the academic year started, said Anoushiravan Mohseni Bandpei, head of the State Welfare Organization. The SWO allocated $1.5 million (60 billion rials) for the program, IRNA reported. Amblyopia is the most common cause of single eye visual impairment for children and young adults. If not detected and treated early in life, it can cause permanent loss of vision.
