Only 18.5% of students in Tehran are enrolled in private schools, and the rest study in state-run institutions, said Alireza Kamrei, director general of the Tehran Education Department at the Education Ministry. “Tehran accounts for 8.5% (or 1.2 million) of the 14 million student population,” in the country, he said, Borna News Agency reported. About five million students are studying at the primary, five million at the middle school, and two million at the high school level. Private schools in Iran charge high tuition fees, ranging from over three million rials (about $800) in preschool and primacy schools and up to 15 million rials (nearly $4,000) in high schools.
