Fire in Ekbatan High Rise

Fire broke out in a 10-storey residential building (with 80 units) in Phase 1, Ekbatan Township (Shahrak-e-Ekbatan) located in northwestern Tehran on Wednesday, said spokesman of Tehran’s Firefighting Department Seyed Jalal Maleki. The fire was first reported in a 100 sq meter unit on the 7th floor.  Soon flames leaped out of the windows towards the upper floors, and some other units were also damaged, IRNA reported. Residents in the building were evacuated and firefighters extinguished the blaze.  Maleki said unsuitable or poor quality materials for building facades can dramatically spread the flames and generate toxic smoke.
