Shelters for Homeless

The biggest shelter for homeless in Tehran called ‘Khavaran’ has a capacity to house 600 people, but with the onset of cold weather, the shelter has admitted more than 1,100 homeless people. Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli, interior minister had said that the cost of “a homeless shelter bed is $4 per year, and the existing shelters in the capital provide accommodation to 7,500 individuals,” jamejamonline.ir reported. There are four main shelters in Tehran Province: ‘Islamshahr Boarding for Men’, (in Islamshahr, south of Tehran), ‘Lavizan’ in Tehran District 4, ‘Bahman’ at Bahman Square, District 16 and ‘Khavaran’ on Afsariyeh Street, District 15.
