Nearly 200 million rials ($5,100) has been allocated in the form of interest-free loans to every house in Mayami in Semnan Province that incurred damages in the earthquake on Wednesday.

“Every damaged house in the quake will be given the amount for repairs and renovation,” said Mayami governor Mohammad Mahdi Karimi on Sunday, IRNA reported.

He said the loans will be provided by the Housing Foundation of Iran.

An earthquake measuring 4.2 degrees on the Richter scale shook Mayami on Wednesday night. There was no report on loss of human life, but several houses in nearby villages were damaged.

Iran is one of the most seismically active countries in the world, sitting astride several major fault lines that cover at least 90% of the country.
