In a meeting between Mohammadali Sobhan-Elahi, chancellor of Kharazmi University of Tehran, and Alaa Abdulhussein Abdulrasool, president of University of Baghdad (UoB) on Saturday, the two sides agreed to expand bilateral scientific and educational collaboration. Sobhan-Elahi, heading a large delegation of officials and academia was in Iraq to explore avenues of cooperation between the two sides. Established in 1919 as the Central Teachers’ Institute, it changed its name to Kharazmi University in 2012. The university is a major institution of higher education and considered to be the oldest in the country. With 78,000 students and 7,000 instructors, UoB is the largest university in Iraq and the second largest Arab university, after the University of Cairo.
