On average, there are 10,000 children living at welfare centers across the country, but the adoption rate is only 1,200 children per year, said Habibollah Masoudi Farid, deputy head of the State Welfare Organization (SWO). “The number of children at welfare centers has increased due to the gradual increase in the number of female addicts, but the figure is still lower than in many countries. In Russia, more than 140,000 children live in welfare centers,” he said, IRNA reported. From among 10,000 children at the welfare centers, 110 are foreign nationals (mostly Afghans), he added.
