Women’s Role in Urban Management

At the 6th International Conference on Sustainable Development and Urban Construction (SDUC) held December 8, Vice President for Women and Family Affairs Shahindokht Molaverdi underscored the important role of women in urban development. “Iran is going through rapid and unbalanced changes with regards to the urban population. Although urbanization (over 70% in the country) opens up new opportunities to nations, it also brings about extensive challenges in economic, social, cultural, and environmental spheres,” she said, Mehr News Agency reported. Empowering women can help overcome some of those challenges if equitable opportunities are provided for their participation in decision-making and management, she added. Organized by Daneshpajoohan Higher Education Institute since 2010, the SDUC strives to take steps towards achieving sustainable construction and livable urban environments.
