In 2015, a budget of $500 million (1,500 billion rials) was allocated from the National Development Fund to improve access to piped drinking water in villages and deprived areas, said Seyed Abolfazl Razavi, deputy first vice-president for rural and deprived areas development.

“Despite having piped water networks, currently some villages and deprived areas don’t have access to piped water supply, as their underground water sources have dried up,” IRNA quoted him as saying.

“The government is developing drinking water supply systems and at present, 811 water supply systems are functioning in the country.”
