Over one million blood units were donated during the first eight months of the current Iranian year that began in March, said spokesperson for the Iranian Blood Transfusion Organization. “This is a 1% increase compared with the same period last year,” Bashir Hajibeigi told IRNA. He also said that during the eight-month period, a total of 2.4 million blood units and blood products were distributed among the hospitals in the country, mostly in Tehran city. The IBTO has plans to increase blood donation among regular donors to 90% nationwide. Currently, Semnan Province has the highest rate of donation among regular donors (70%).
