In order to complete the first phase of the national genetic information database project, samples should be collected from 10,000 hardcore criminals across the country of whom, 4,800 are in prisons in Tehran Province. “At present we are providing necessary training to medical technicians to collect DNA samples from the criminals,” said Masoud Qaedi Pasha, head of the Tehran Province Legal Medicine Organization (LMO) on Thursday. “Genetic information database will help check criminals from committing repeated offenses,” he said. It can act as a crime prevention tool by helping restrain criminals from committing repeated offenses for fear of being caught, IRNA reported.
