About half of the 80 million Iranian population is living with some form of musculoskeletal disorders, according to a board member at the Iranian Physiotherapy Association.

“MSDs are conditions that can affect muscles, bones, and joints, and if not treated in time, will get chronic and seriously affect everyday life activities in the long term and impose huge economic burdens,” said Akbar Hemmati.

They are extremely common and the risk of developing one increases with sedentary lifestyles, excessive use of mobiles, laptops, and other electronic devices, physical inactivity, and age, he noted. Some common MSDs include conditions such as tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, and bone fractures.
