Secretary General of the Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) Seyed Ahmad Mousavi announced the decision to establish the first maritime rescue and training center in the southern province of Bushehr, to provide professional training to maritime rescue forces in Iran and other member countries of the International Maritime Rescue Federation (IMRF).

He also said new air rescue services to help increase the effectiveness of relief and rescue operations across the country had been launched.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of a two-day conference in Bushehr on the programs for Red Crescent relief and rescue centers, Mousavi said “this year the IRCS will purchase new relief helicopters for the accident-prone province of Bushehr” to facilitate quick rescue operations, IRNA reported.

Bushehr was chosen as the first province to get relief helicopter due to its “strategic position,” to help rescue people stranded in inaccessible places and transfer them to hospitals, Mousavi said.

One of the duties of the Red Crescent is to educate people and volunteers regarding first aid and relief operations. For this purpose, “a new online training system has been developed to facilitate training and educational programs across the country,” he said.

Highlighting the need for state of the art facilities to forecast natural disasters, he said a national forecasting center was established by IRCS last year “to observe and prepare for natural calamities.”
