The 4th international congress of Medical Ethics and Law in Gene Therapy will be held on November 16-17 at the International Conferences Hall in Yazd, central Iran, said Mahmoud Abbasi, scientific secretary of the congress and director of Medical Ethics and Law Research Center (MELRC) at Tehran’s Shahhid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences. The congress has been organized jointly by MELRC and Yazd’s Shahid Sadoughi University of Medical Sciences, IRNA reported. Moral and ethical issues in gene therapy and genetic engineering and their legal challenges are the two important subjects that will be discussed at the confab. Officials from the Sydney-based International Association of Bioethics will also attend the conference. At present, MELRC holds training programs in medical law and ethics at graduate and post-graduate levels, as well as workshops related to the field.
