The deputy chief for strategic planning at the vice-presidential Institute for Women and Family Affairs said “depression among Iranian women is twice that in men.” Dr. Soosan Bastani, addressing the first National Congress on Family Psychology in Ahwaz, called for more attention to women’s health saying “violence, domination and other marital problems are all linked to women’s depression.” She emphasized the need for pre-marital education and promotion of family values. She also welcomed volunteer work in the area of women and family affairs, reports ISNA.
