Drug Use in Schools

Currently, 136,000 students are at risk of addiction and among them 3,600 have tried at least one illegal drug at some point in their life, said Nader Mansour-Kiaee, director general of Social Harms Prevention Office at the Education Ministry, Alef News Agency reported. This is the first time that the ministry has announced official figures on students’ addiction but the figure is not close to what was released earlier by the Iran Drug Control Headquarters (IDCH). In 2014, IDCH announced that 1% of all students between the ages 14-17 (54,000 students) in the country have tried illegal drugs at least once.
