Smart Bikes Soon

The new generation of bicycles, smart bikes, as part of the bike-sharing initiative in Tehran will be available by the end of November, said director of Non-Motor Vehicle Transport Department at Tehran Municipality.

“About 100 terminals have been set up across the capital as part of the initiative undertaken by the Tehran Municipality’s transport and traffic department,” to encourage the use of bicycles, said Mohammad Kheradmand, ISNA reported.

The terminals are mostly set up in crowded downtown areas and near interchange subway stations and tourist sites.

The scheme was launched in August 2015. Nearly 200 billion rials ($5 million) was allocated to purchase and upgrade the smart bicycles (with GPS and locking systems) for the program.
