All traditional breads currently produced in the country are iron-fortified and studies are being conducted to find the best way to add Vitamin D to traditional breads as well, said Zahra Abdollahi, director general of Diet and Nutrition Promotion Office at the Health Ministry. Last year that ended in March, free milk distributed to students in 19 provinces was fortified with iron. “This year we are planning to distribute iron-enriched milk to schools in all the 31 provinces,” IRNA quoted her as saying. The measure has been taken to reduce the prevalence of iron deficiency and anemia among students.
