World Stroke Day

On the eve of World Stroke Day, congregants at Tehran’s Friday Prayers were offered free tests for blood sugar and blood pressure. Observed on October 29 every year, the day underscores the serious nature and high rates of stroke, and raises awareness on prevention and treatment. The tests were conducted by a number of medical student volunteers, said secretary of Iran Stroke Society Dr. Masoud Mehrpour, IRNA reported. Around 300,000 people in the country suffer from strokes annually, with 20% fatalities and 80% disabilities. The average age of brain stroke fatalities in Iran is 10 years below the global average.
