Woman Killed by Subway Train

A 35-year-old woman died after being struck by a subway train at Karaj Metro Station on Metro Line 5, Saturday night. The victim had crossed the platform’s cautionary yellow line and was leaning forward. It is not clear whether she committed suicide or was killed accidentally, IRNA reported. In the past month, three other similar accidents have occurred at Shademan, Chitgar and Tehranpars Stations in Tehran Metro causing the death of 4 people. A plan to install Platform Screen Doors (PSD) on metro lines had been discussed at an open session of the Tehran City Council (TCC) earlier; however it was not approved as installation was found to be expensive. Platform screens are glass walls that screen platforms from tracks with doors that open in sync with the subway train doors.
