1.2m Increase in Population

A total of 1.2 million people were added to the country’s population in the past Iranian year (ended March 19). “Last year, the national population increased by 1.2 million, and the same trend is expected for the current Iranian year that ends in March 2017,” said deputy health minister Mohammad Hadi Ayyazi. Speaking at the first international and the 19th national conference on Environmental Health and Sustainable Development held October 22-24 at Tehran’s Milad Tower, he said there were 1.57 million births and 370,000 deaths last year, ISNA reported. As of Sunday, October 23, the population of Iran is 80.33 million.
