The country’s first healthcare service center for prison inmates was inaugurated in Tabriz, East Azarbaijan Provice on Monday in the presence of Health Minister Hassan Qazizadeh Hashemi.
“The center was established by Tabriz University of Medical Sciences and Tabriz Central Prison, and will provide prisoners with the same services offered at medical centers,” said university chancellor Dr. Mohammad Hossein Soumi, IRNA reported. “About 10 inmates will be tested and screened for risky and contagious diseases on a daily basis,” said Jafar Sadeq, deputy head of the university.
The facility, titled “Golestan Health Center” has the capacity to perform 500 tests per month, and includes two physicians, and four healthcare providers. It includes an occupational healthcare department and offers psychological and nutrition counseling also.
