An Iranian drug lord, (name, age not revealed) whose networks spanned across eastern and western Iran, has been caught by Iranian police forces, said chief prosecutor of Alborz Province Ahmad Fazelian, on Monday. “He had been on the run for smuggling up to 1,000 tons of illicit drugs. Afghan and Pakistani traffickers helped him smuggle the narcotics into and out of the country,” Fazelian said, reported.

“The drug kingpin was conducting his narcotics trade under the cover of commercial companies registered in different countries,” he added.

Iran has a 900-kilometer common border with Afghanistan, the world’s top producer of opium, and is often used as the main conduit for smuggling drugs from the neighboring country, to traffickers in Europe.
