Since the beginning of the current year (started March 20), the number of people seeking help at counseling centers across the country for “high risk behavior” have increased 8-fold, said Health Minister Seyed Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi, on Saturday. Speaking on the sidelines of the Second Regional (Eastern Mediterranean Region) Summit to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria held at the ministry, he said so far, 160 physicians have been trained to offer counseling to people who suspect that they are infected with a sexually transmitted disease (STD), including HIV, IRNA quoted him as saying. Norbert Hauser, the chair of the Global Fund’s Board to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria also attended the meeting.
