Life expectancy in Iran is about 74 years based on the latest official statistics. “But life expectancy measures quantity rather than quality of life. Our studies show there is a 10-year gap between Iranians’ life expectancy and ‘healthy life years’ which is 64,” said Mohammad Esmaeil Motlaq, director general of Population and Family Office at the Health Ministry.  Healthy life year is the number of years a person is expected to continue to live in a healthy condition. There is need to improve healthcare facilities for senior citizens in all villages and cities across the country to address the problem, Motlaq said, IRNA reported.
