At the 63rd Session of the WHO Regional Committee for the Eastern Mediterranean Region on Wednesday, Health Minister Hassan Hashemi presented a report on the state of health in the region as well as Iran’s health-related measures. The session is underway October 3-6 in Cairo, Egypt. On the sidelines of the session, Hashemi met with WHO Director-General Dr. Margaret Chan and had a separate meeting with his Omani counterpart where important regional health issues were discussed, Mehr News Agency reported.
A wide range of progress reports were presented at the WHO meet by representatives from member states on different subjects such as eradication of poliomyelitis; emerging and re-emerging diseases like dengue; hemorrhagic fever; prevention and control of non communicable diseases and implementation of the International Health Regulations.
