The divorce growth rate continues to overtake the marriage growth rate in the country. According to data from the National Organization for Civil Registration, the rate of marriage has declined by 4.2% in the first six months of the current Iranian year that began in March, while the divorce rate went up by 1.2% in the same period vis-à-vis last year. Overall, 402,991 cases of marriage and 92,290 cases of divorce were registered in the first half of the year indicating a 4.2% decline in marriages. Statistics suggest that Iranian men tend to get divorced at around the age of 36 and the average age of divorce for women is 31. At present, the rate of marriage in the country is 8.7 per 1,000 people. The average marriage age is 27.5 for men and 23 for women.
