According to figures released by the National Organization for Civil Registration (NOCR), in the first half of the current year that started in March, more than 807,000 births were registered in the country.

About 78% of the births registered were in urban areas.  The rate of natural increase (RNI) which is the crude birth rate minus the crude death rate has been announced as 615,000 by the NOCR website.

A decline in the population growth rate in the past decade led to an alarming decrease in the total fertility rate. Based on the current population policies outlined by the Leader Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei, plans and programs have been launched to improve the birth rates. As per the latest available data, Iran’s population is said to be 80.1 million.
