Iran’s population crossed the 80.1 million mark recently, said Hamid Derakhshani-Nia, deputy interior minister and head of the Organization for Civil Registration. “During the first 6 months of the current year (started March 20), more than 783,230 births were registered in the country and currently, our population growth rate is 1.43%,” Tabnak News Agency quoted him as saying. The latest estimates of the United Nations say the current population of Iran as of Wednesday, September 28, is 80.26 million. Iran’s population is projected to reach 92.2 million by 2050, after which it will face a declining trend, says a UN study.
