The names “Fatemeh” and “Amir-Ali” are the two most popular names chosen for male and female newborns respectively so far this year (began March 20).
“The names Zahra and Nazanin-Zahra for girls, and Mohammad and Ali for boys followed suit,” said Mohammad Ebrahim Tarighat, spokesperson of the National Organization for Civil Registration.
The names are taken from the names of the first Shia Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (AS) and his wife and Prophet Mohammad’s (PBUH) daughter Fatima Zahra (SA). They comprise 36% of all names registered at the organization. Over 700,000 babies were born since the beginning of the year with boys more in number.
