The minister of interior said community-based organizations can play a major role in “promoting virtue and prohibiting vice” in society. Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli who was visiting East Azerbaijan Province told ISNA that “promotion of virtue and prohibition of vice is a religious duty” and people believe in its importance. He also emphasized that practicing this duty should be restricted to “verbal admonitions” only.
