The rate of road accidents normally peaks in the last month of summer. This year, 810 people lost their lives in September, the last month of the summer holiday season, and 18,600 people were injured in traffic mishaps, said Mosa Amiri, deputy traffic police chief. “The figure has increased by 3.6% compared to the corresponding period last year,” Alef News Agency quoted him as saying. A total of 15,250 road accidents have been registered across the country so far in September and about 21% of the traffic accidents happened between 4pm and 8pm, he said. The two main causes of road mishaps are sleep-deprivation and exceeding the speed limit, he added.
