Life Skills Training for Senior Citizens

A program to provide 45,000 elderly women with training in self-management, social skills, healthy nutrition and physical exercises is underway in 10 provinces of the country, said Anoushiravan Mohseni Bandpei, head of the State Welfare Organization (SWO). The program which has been developed jointly by the SWO and the Vice Presidency of Women’s Affairs, aims to improve quality of life for senior citizens, IRNA reported. The aging population in the country is increasingly made up of women with 98 men for every 100 women (aged 60 and above). More than 8% of the population is over the age of 60 (6.4 million). In 2006, 7.3% of the population or 5.1 million people were elderly.
