An earthquake measuring 3.1 degrees on the Richter scale jolted Firouzkouh County in Tehran Province, on Friday. According to the Geophysics Institute of Tehran University, the tremor occurred 14 km from Firuzkouh city at 6:19 am local time and was registered at a depth of 9 km, Alef News Agency reported. There were no immediate reports of damage and Iranian Red Crescent Society (IRCS) rescue teams have been sent to the region to offer help if required. Iran sits astride several major seismic faults, and is prone to frequent earthquakes, many of which have been devastating.
