The government has allocated $113 million for milk distribution in schools in the new school year that starts on September 23, said Hassan Rokni, deputy agricultural jihad minister for livestock production. “A total of 800 million packets of milk will be distributed to nearly 14.5 million students in 105,000 schools across the country,” he said Wednesday during a visit to the International Exhibition of Dairy Products and Related Industries in Tehran. The spending on school milk last year was $174 million, IRNA reported. The reason for the cut in the funding was not reported. Annual per capita consumption of milk and dairy products in Iran is less than 70 kg as against the global 300 kg.
