An official at Iranian Welfare Organization said domestic violence such as child and wife abuse is the top reason for emergency calls. In an interview with ISNA, Dr. Habibollah Massoudi said last year 600,000 emergency calls were reported, of which only one-third were relevant. He added that in 15% of the incidents ambulance service was provided and most of the victims received support over the phone.
