Higher education, technical and vocational training and training in handicrafts are provided to prisoners, said Mohammad Mardani, director of Rajai Shahr prison. Mardani outlined the role of training “as a perfect way to reinforce positive beliefs and values, knowledge and skills and empowering individuals to protect themselves and others against hazardous situations,” Mehr News agency reported.
Training in useful skills helps individuals deal effectively with their problems and resolve conflicts. It also encourages group work, helps achieve self-esteem, and builds resistance against peer pressure to take risky action.
