Iran’s polio eradication program is a successful model in eastern Mediterranean region, said deputy director general of World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Bruce Ward.

Despite being neighbors with countries such as Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq, where polio has not yet been eradicated, Iran has succeeded in polio virus eradication, he added.

He said WHO was preparing to transfer technical knowhow of producing injectable polio vaccine to the country, IRNA reported.

Dr. Ali Akbar Sayyari, deputy health minister requested WHO to create awareness among migrants to give polio vaccine to children before arriving in the country.
