An official with the Social Welfare Organization has called for withdrawal of Oxycodone, a strong painkiller, from pharmacy shelves. “Oxycodone is a very strong opioid-based painkiller and should not be supplied through pharmacies as many people, namely addicts, are likely to abuse it,” said Dr. Mohsen Roshanpazhuh, deputy for addiction prevention at the SWO. The industrial drug is addictive and its abuse can cause epilepsy, respiratory distress, and even death when taken in high doses or when combined with other substances, such as alcohol, reports IRNA. According to the Food and Drug Administration, the drug is available at 200 drugstores across the country, but only offered through prescription.
