Two officials from Iran’s Blood Transfusion Organization (IBTO) were among the keynote speakers at the 34th International Congress of the International Society of Blood Transfusion underway in Dubai. On Wednesday, head of IBTO’s Immunohematology Reference Laboratory and member of the board of directors of the ISBT rare blood types workgroup, Mostafa Moqaddam, spoke on Iran’s experience in supporting patients who have red blood cell antibodies that cause problems during blood transfusions. A day earlier, Mahtab Magqsoudlou, deputy at the High Institute for Education and Research in Transfusion Medicine, affiliated to IBTO, spoke on blood donors’ management. A team of 11 Iranian experts also cooperated with the World Health Organization in the research project on the status of blood safety and availability in the Eastern Mediterranean Region which was presented on the opening day of the seminar on September 4 by Yetmgeta E. Abdella, head of the Blood Safety Unit at WHO. The confab concludes on September 8.
