New Addiction Testing More Accurate

A group of researchers from Mashhad Branch of Islamic Azad University, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and the Iranian Legal Medicine Organization have used nanotechnology to introduce a quick and accurate method for detecting addiction.

According to Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC), results of the laboratory research will help in the tracing and detection of illegal substances in a person’s blood with higher accuracy, the INIC website reported. The current addiction methods show negative when the person has not used drugs for a couple of months. The new method synthesizes magnetic nanoparticles in addiction tests that can detect traces of drugs used for up to six months prior to testing. The speed and accuracy of the method makes it highly important in the mandatory premarital tests for couples and for organizations that seek recruitment in high-ranking positions.  Results of the research have been published in the American journal of ‘Forensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology’.
