Pulmonary embolism is a condition in which one or more arteries in the lungs become blocked by a blood clot. The condition is more prevalent among women due to hormonal changes in different stages of their life, said Dr. Babak Sharifi Kashani, head of Heart Transplant Department at Masih Daneshvari Hospital in Tehran. “If the condition is identified early, it can be treated by using thinners and drugs (without surgery),” Alef News Agency quoted him as saying. Prompt treatment to break up the clot greatly reduces the risk of death. The 18th international congress on cardiology will be held on September 13-16 at the International Convention Center of Tehran’s Milad Tower.
