A technical problem in a subway escalator in Tehran Metro line 2 (Farhang-Sara Station) caused injuries to 20 passengers on Sunday. Among them, 18 were admitted to hospital for treatment of severe injuries, said Rahmatollah Hafezi, head of Tehran City Council’s Civil Service Commission and Environmental Health. “Poor maintenance resulting in a broken escalator step chain was the cause of the accident,” IRNA quoted Hafezi as saying. The Tehran Metro is owned and operated by the Tehran Urban & Suburban Railway Company.
